shark week | day 4 |previous
Oceanic white tip sharks are among the many shark species that give each other love bites. Biting is part of the mysterious shark mating ritual.
First, the male will start swimming in a pattern (ritual swimming). Then, he will bite and hold onto the larger female’s pectoral fin. and then they do the do.
Sharks are either viviparous (give birth to live offspring), or egg-laying. Pups are born/hatched self-sufficient. Most sharks don’t have many pups at a time, and gestation periods are long. This is one of the causes of decreasing shark populations.
conservation status of oceanic white tip: vulnerable; critically endangered in some areas due to finning (the white tip has huge fins) and unmonitored fishing.

~愛的咬痕~
Noted that the oceanic whitetip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) and the whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus) are different species~!
記住遠洋白鰭鯊同白鰭鯊(白頂礁鯊)係唔同品種黎架~!XD
